Culinary Uses

Green chutney is one of the most widely used condiments in Indian cuisine and is a staple in homes and restaurants. Its applications are extensive:

  • Dipping Sauce: The most common use is as a dip for a wide range of fried snacks and appetizers, such as samosaspakoras, and kebabs.

  • Spreads and Sauces: It serves as a flavorful spread for sandwiches, rolls, and wraps, and can be thinned out to create a sauce for grilled meats, fish, or vegetable dishes.

  • Flavor Enhancer: It's a crucial component in chaat (Indian street food) where it adds a necessary spicy and tangy kick. It can also be mixed with yogurt to create a creamy dip or dressing.

  • Marinade: The acidic and spicy nature of green chutney makes it an excellent base for a marinade for chicken, paneer, or other vegetables before grilling or baking.
